Is your Internet Slow? When selecting an Internet Service Provider (ISP) for your business, you get a lot of numbers thrown at you. What are “Extreme Speeds” advertised by ISPs, and do you really get those advertised speeds? What is considered broadband speed? Is anyone monitoring your bandwidth? To give an example of what those speeds mean, Netflix makes the following recommendations for internet download speed per stream to play movies.
• 3.0 Megabits per second - Recommended for SD quality
• 5.0 Megabits per second - Recommended for HD quality
• 25 Megabits per second - Recommended for Ultra HD quality
But if your ISP offers a package “Deluxe 25” 25 Mbps download, and 10 Mbps upload, do you always get that speed? Short answer, no. Most of the lower cost “Business Plans” offered by ISPs do not come with guaranteed uptime or speed guarantees.
